I'm a private meteorologist who has worked in operational forecasting, TV broadcasting, and forecasting research.

I moved to Kansas City in 2007, after having lived in Wichita, Kansas for a number of years.  Some places I've worked in the past are The Weather Channel in Atlanta; and KSNW-TV, Weatherdata Inc., and Wichita State University in Wichita.  But now I get to work largely for myself on my own projects.

Growing up in Pratt, Kansas, weather has always fascinated me, particularly severe storms and tornadoes.  As an adult, I’ve continued to have a strong interest in understanding storms.  Tornado forecasting and documentation is a serious hobby and interest of mine.

Although I am not affiliated directly with a government or academic institution, I have had a number of papers published in AMS (American Meteorology Society) publications as well as other magazines and journals (see the Home page on this site).  I hope that some of my work and ideas will continue to be useful in operational severe weather forecasting.

I got married in 2008 (my lovely wife Shawna is a storm chaser in her own right), and we enjoy chasing storms together when time allows.  She has a strong interest in public education about severe weather safety and response to disaster.  Shawna was a big help with my book for kids, "Storm Chasers! On the Trail of Twisters", and we do talks together at schools about severe weather in conjunction with the book.

Some personal data:  Besides weather and storm chasing, I enjoy movies, along with reading, film scores, and playing piano. Watching storms has been a hobby of mine ever since I was 9 years old and saw my first tornado near my father’s business at Pratt.  Severe weather and education will continue to be a serious interest for both Shawna and me for years to come.
